Well, if we have any hope of reaching post season play a win over Akron Garfield is critical.

I know our kids will continue to respond possitively to our coaches philosophy. WE (the fans) need to hang in there and support them unconditionally. We ALL (including me) need to be reminded of this from time to time.

There are better days ahead for Tiger football.

Garfield won ANOTHER close one last night 25-21 over an previously undefeated Akron North squad to go 3-1. Heading into the remainer of their schedule they could very reasonablely win 7 or 8 games.

This game is about as crucial as it gets if we have any hope of making the playoffs!

Some time ago,I was of the opinion that to be the best, you had to beat the best, which meant playing the parochial schools. I have since had a change of heart about that, because most of the time, the publics simply cannot compete with the talent the parochials get from wherever. Until the state athletic association decides to do something about where these schools draw their talent from,we should drop playing them.I know,I know;we're not in a league so we have no choice but to play them.

A 6-4 record may not get you in the playoffs and it is way to early to know this and it would take the right combination of teams winning or losing for this to happen. Its possible but realy very iffy. GO TIGERS

Come on over and join the Fed and all your worries about having to play Ignatius, Ursuline, etc., etc....will be put to rest. At worst you'll only have to worry about scheduling 3 games a year.

Screw the Fed. We already take out your garbage for you. What more do you want?

joining the fed. is a no win situation for us. the scenario:

we beat a fed. team= o big bad Massillon beat a fed. team!!
we loose to a fed. team= o big bad Massillon cant even beat a fed. team!!

the same goes for playing a div. 5 school:

we beat a div. 5 school= o big bad Massillon beat a div. 5 school!!!
we loose to a div. 5 school= o big bad Massillon cant even beat a div. 5 school!!!

now back to the topic, before we were so rudly interupted by another classless cantwin bullfrog person:

IMO, saying we need to drop paroch schools is just another excuse. We've been making too many excuses for way too long. We didn't have a problem beating Elder, Iggy, and Ed's in '05. Now we lose one game to Ursuline and we need to drop all parochs from our schedule? What kind of example is that to our boys? Saying we can't beat them makes them think that too. Why even play Iggy in two weeks, let's just forfiet. That's what it sounds like everybody wants.

Until OHSAA splits private and public we have to face them. Honestly does anybody really think that will happen? Why use the excuse of saying, let everyone else beat them, then we'll beat that team. What makes you think that if Glenville can beat Iggy, we can beat Glenville? We need to stop trying to hide from the "big bad" private schools and just go out there and kick some a$$. We need to stop making excuses, it's getting old and it makes us look like a bunch of cry babies.

Anyways........

Fed hurts us in playoff points factoring.

You see, if you look at all remaining games for all of our opponents there are only 2 more times our opponents play each other(Buchtel/Garfield WGH/Iggy). In the fed that is a LOT different.

All the wimps come out crying when we lose to a private. Maybe we just are not good enough this year. In the years when we have a team that has a legit shot at state the privates are not that big of a deal.

And anyone who wants our fist playoff championship to be in a playoff without privates can turn in all the tiger gear they have (minus the crap with the canadian cat), season tickets, and tailgate equipment now.

If they ever do change the playoffs to divide the public and privates the press release will not read..."Playoff format to divide publics and privates"...it will read "Massillon may be able to win playoff championship under new system". I dont want any part of this until we get one in the system that is in place now!

All the wimps come out crying when we lose to a private. Maybe we just are not good enough this year. In the years when we have a team that has a legit shot at state the privates are not that big of a deal.!

REALLY ?????

I guess we haven't ever had a legit shot at the Title then.

Cincinnati Moeller 1980-2006 -----------2 - 12 Only 2 wins against Moeller

Cleveland St. Ignatius 1989-2007------- 1 - 11 only 1 miracle win here

St Xavier 2005------------------------0 - 1 couldn't beat them either

With a record of 3-24 (LOSSES), against the upper tier of the privates in the last 30 years, I guess we've NEVER had a shot at the TITLE.

We saw in the Shepas era, that we don't have the depth to "play the best" teams week in & week out.

I'm smart enough to know that we will need to catch lightning in a bottle, and have some LUCK, to win a TTLE !

The numbers don't lie. I'll take 1111 over 578 any day. Our 600 boys can compete with a LOT of bigger schools, like Mentor. However, when you play a school like St X, with 1111 HAND PICKED boys, we are a SEVERE UNDERDOG.
This ain't your Daddy's high school football anymore !!
Gerry Faust changed the High School Football skyline forever.

Here is my recipe for success. It starts with SMART scheduling !!

1. Make a schedule condusive to make the playoffs.

2. Win enough games to QUALIFY for the playoffs.

3. Hope to run the rack in a weak Region 2.

4. Hope that Warren , Glenville, or Solon, can knock off the BIG BAD WOLF.

5. Play the best Region 1 team with a HEALTHY team, in the semis.

6. Hope that the REGION 4 semi final wore out & beat up, the winner

7. Beat a Cincinnati team for the STATE TITLE.

You only HAVE to BEAT THE BEST in the PLAYOFFS !! Let the playoffs determine who is the best team. Let's make the playoffs, and let the teams sort out our fate, not our schedule.

On a final note : BEAT GARFIELD !!!

Get at least 5 to 6 limen close on defense against Garfield, because the rams don't like to pass. Make Garfield on o face 2nd and 3rd and long. Let's see what kind of quarterback the rams have. Garfield loves to run out of the power I with 2 tight ends.

Yes that is about right......2005, and we had a winning record against privates and lost a close one in the finals......

We cant beat the top tier publics anymore either.....I don't think your argument holds any water....Eventually you have to play a strong team from a bigger school, no matter if they are public or private. It doesnt hurt to play two or three very strong teams a year.

Our problem is we cant win on the road and we cant even beat the teams we should be beating anymore.

Translated your recipe for success looks like this:

1) Play a weak schedule
2)Sneak in Playoffs
3)Hope our region is weak, like our schedule was
4)God forbid we have to play Eds or Iggy
5)Play a team with the type of talent and speed we have not seen all season
6)Hope the region four winner is so beat up they have to cancel
7)Beat a team with type of talent and speed we have not seen all season

You say we only have to beat the best in the playoffs but your unlikely scenerio doesnt have us meeting up with the best. Like I mentioned before our schedule has been fine, we just cant beat the teams we are supposed to beat.

-- Not a weak schedule. A harbin condusive one.

2)Sneak in Playoffs
--With the right schedule, playoffs would be automatic

3)Hope our region is weak, like our schedule was
--NEWSFLASH !! Our region is almost ALWAYS weak

4)God forbid we have to play Eds or Iggy
--Not God forbid, but I'll take Ed's over Iggy

5)Play a team with the type of talent and speed we have not seen all season
--If it happens , it happens. Losing to a fast talented team in the regular season isn't helping

6)Hope the region four winner is so beat up they have to cancel
--Nothing wrong with hoping for a semi-final bloodbath

7)Beat a team with type of talent and speed we have not seen all season
--There is NO guarantee that that would happen

You say we only have to beat the best in the playoffs but your unlikely scenerio doesnt have us meeting up with the best. Like I mentioned before our schedule has been fine, we just cant beat the teams we are supposed to beat.

Chronic,

The BEST team doesn't always win the TITLE !! Last year's SuperBowl is the BEST example.

I just get sick and tired of season's like last year, where our kids sit dejected in week 11, only to watch the Hoover's, GlenOaks, and Perry's of REGION 2 keep playing.

How many years do you think that Massillon is not in the top 8 of Region 2 ??
How many times in week 11, while you're at home, with NO MASSILLON playoff game to watch, do you say, " Gee, we coulda beat half of the REGION 2 qualifiers ".

Start playing these Region 2 teams, it'll only strengthen our playoff shots.

Our kids deserve the opportunity to play on the "Playoff Stage". They work too hard, and play for too good of a PROGRAM, not to be awarded at the end.

We need to do what it takes to qualify for the playoffs EVERY year. And going 10-0 , doesn't have to be it.

Only getting harbins one year from Iggy isn't cutting the mustard. They GOTTA love us though. We need to schedule games that we CAN win.

Take a page out of Hoover's book, and see how they qualify almost every year. As weak as REGION 2 is, year in and year out, it should be harder to NOT qualify for the playoffs.

Let's make the playoffs first, then worry about who the best is.

Warren schedules Cardinal Mooney, St. Ignatius, Ursuline. We added this year: Walsh Jesuit.

Not even thinking about the playoffs, but "IF" we make it in:
Will see Iggy, Glenville, etc. A huge "IF" we get past those just mentioned:

Will see some Catholic Cincinnati powerhouse that draws players from 3 border line states; Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. We won't see that far this year.

We already lost to Mooney 17 - 0!! Next week we have Ursuline at home.
We should have had an offense against Mooney. Will we wake up in time for Lima Senior and Ursuline? In a nutshell:

Tiger Fans, I understand your frustrations!!!! So what do we do as a group of Public Schools? It is better to be in a group than alone to face OHSAA? Our past encounters with private schools are at best on the losing end. Yeah Warren Harding has a good record against St. Eds. A bad one with Iggy, Mooney gives us headaches, and Ursuline is not too far behind Mooney. We need points to get into the playoffs, not enough public schools want to tangle with the Massillons/ Warrens much anymore. Catholic schools do! Maybe have one or two Catholic schools on the schedule, the rest public schools your size or a bit smaller, depending on the points they can possibly provide. Keep Warren though, either one of us can use the others points!!!
