1.) Hello Democrats? I would like to introduce you to Brooks Brothers, Armani, Donna Karan, and Ann Taylor. (Notwithstanding the Alaskan contingent that I expected to see in parkas driving up in dogsleds!!)
2.) With the suits and cowboy hats, was anybody else like me waiting for John Bradshaw Layfield to come running in with his limo?
3.) After watching last night's speech, there is no DOUBT the Repubs have better looking babeage.
4.) Romney and Huckabee gave decent, predictable Republican establishment speeches. Guiliani got the crowd ROCKIN'.
5.) Palin NAILED it last night, at least in initial content. I heard it described as a home run, albeit in the first inning. I concur. More to come on the content of her speech.
6.) I do NOT want to meet her in a debate, argument, fight. The woman has some spunk, make no mistake.
7.) Her daughters' names are Bristol, Willow, and Piper. I think she was smoking something IN her "piper" when she came up with those names.
8.) I was glad to see the Repubs actually woke up during this convention. It's a shame it took moving a bunch of hot babes front and center for Palin's speech to make it happen.
9.) Replace "hockey mom" with "soccer mom" and I think she's accurate. Soccer mom is an insane species.
10.) The Dems initial reaction was weak. They better come up with something better than the 10% change mantra or the Palin steamroller will crush them.
11.) I think Palin proved her fortitude by the speech she gave. After what she has endured the last couple of days she was strong and forthright with her beliefs.
12.) McCain's entrance in a black suit, white shirt and orange tie was a message to Coach Hall and the Tigers to go out and kick Normandy's azzes tomorrow night.
13.) WOW. Cindy McCain in a HOT, lime-green dress. (Sigh).
14.) How lucky is Joe Biden? He gets to run around the country debating Palin while poor Obama is stuck with McCain.
15.) Before anybody starts PLEASE remember that speech writers write ALL politician's speechs and not just Governor Palin's last night.
OK, have at it.

I flipped through the channels and saw Huckabee talking so I decided to watch for a little bit. It was the same old "John McCain was a POW..." Really? Thanks. I missed that the first couple million times it was said. I don't think the Republican party really wants to win this election.

I won't disagree with the fact that this is getting WAY too much air-time. The election won't be won on that PB I TOTALLY agree. But knowing you I have to believe you liked the scenery there last night!!! LOL.

I turned it off not too long after Huckabee finished speaking so I didn't get to see a whole lot. I had to ice my shoulder after sliding into 2nd last night in a fall ball league. I'm the oldest 26 y/o in the world lol. Jamming your shoulder only hurt a few hours in high school. I used to make fun of guys in their late 20's who got hurt playing in summer wooden bat league with us, now I'm one of them lol.

Now THIS is ironic. I've had ice on my left shoulder (including last night) for the past week. Throwing 500 pitches of batting practice for AAU is starting to take a toll on me!! I'm the YOUNGEST 50 year in the world. Unfortunately, 50 IS 50!! OUCH!!! Hope the shoulder starts feeling better.

It's fine today, last night was a different story. And to make it worse, I was out at 2nd! Not too mention breaking 2 bats pissed me off even more.

I thought Palin's speech was good. I was actually surprised by how composed she was, with all the controversy surrounding her. I must say I may have underestimated her. She seems to have it all together at this point. Time will tell. Giuliani, however, was smug, arrogant and condescending.

I felt that the republicans are desperate, in their nomination, in their speeches, in everything. Near hysterics, and ohhh the lies. I can't believe people believe these things. What a bunch of horseshit. I was so infuriated listening to these speeches. People while I didn't agree with their politics I at least respected! well not GUiliani, I hate that guy. But the rest of them MAN! They will do whatever they can to win elections that much is clear, welcome back Rovians, didn't take you too long did it

Actually, two of the more hillarious things I took away from the convention speeches last night was,
Mitt Romney attacking the east coast "eltites", which not only was he one of as governor of Massachusettes, but has relied on heavily during his entire political life!
and...Mike Huckabees continued ability to portray himself as a christian man of the cloth, while looking into the camera and lying thru his teeth. He seems to always get a rousing round of applause when doing so, just like last night when he claimed that Sarah Palin got more votes for mayor of Wasilla then Joe Biden has recieved in the Presidential primaries of 1988 and 2008. Huck's should employ the services of "fact-check" prior to opening his mouth. If so, he would have known that she got 4,347 votes which is more than a few shy of what Biden got. But hey, who's counting? Lol
Unfortunately, we all know the saying that goes, how do you know when a politician is lying?, when they move their lips!

For the first time ever, I disliked Rudy. He came off as a real tool, IMO. I turned it off before he was even done.
It's just a shame that grown men and women on both sides have to act like little children with their name-calling, twisting of facts, and spewing boldface lies. It's just ridiculous.

What I would like to know: Is Sarah Palin the best choice as VP? I'm so tired of hearing how great of a mom she is, how great of a Mayor she was and how great of a governor she was. I'm also tired of hearing about her daughter (from Rep’s and Dem’s) good or bad, she is not running for VP so leave her alone and out of this!
I want to know that the Sarah Palin was the best choice for VP. I want to know that Sarah Palin was not given this opportunity to try and steal the women votes.
I hear from all of the Republican news sources that she is a great person and will be a great VP. But I have not heard from any of them, NONE, that she is in fact the best choice the Republican Party had.

Was Obama the best choice for President?
Was Joe Biden the best choice for Vice-President?
Was John McCain the best choice for President?
Was Sarah "Smoking Hot" Palin the best choice for Vice-President?
The answer to all FOUR of those questions is a resounding NO. So, what's your point? It's not about being the most qualified. It's about being the most electable, right Twbt????

Is anybody else wondering when "hockey mom" became a pro for the 2nd highest (semi) elected office in the land, and not a con?
Personally, I want my leaders to be smarter, brighter, and extremely well versed on domestic and international concerns... not a communications major with a minor in polisci from a third tier state school, or an "admiral's son D" graduate from a military academy.
I dunno, something like a Columbia, Harvard Law grad (Magna Cum Laude, no less), Civil Rights lawyer, and Constitutional Law professor at the University of Chicago.
Anybody know somebody that fits that description?

All wonderful credentials, but I think he is still trying to “find himself”.
Yesterday he thought he was in New Pennsylvania, when he was in New Philadelphia. Last week he thought he was in St. Louis, when he was in Kansas City. In January he will probably think he is in Washington D.C., when he is actually in Chicago. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_1.gif

My point is we as Americans voted for Obama and for McCain. We did not have a choice on the VP candidate. Joe Biden for a running mate to Obama, yes I think that is a pretty good choice as he's strong and knowledgeable and make up for weak points that Obama has. I think Biden would make a good President as well as he would be respected at home and abroad.
Do I think Sarah Palin was picked because of her strengths as she is strong and knowledgeable and would make a good President? No. I think she was picked simply on her sex, she is a woman and the Republicans think they can get that swing vote of all women that may have voted for Hillary.
I admire so many morals of the Republican Party and I need those morals to be represented and to be protected, I feel that we have sunk to a new level by selecting Sarah Palin. I think the Republican Party now will fail because of this and I don’t find any of it funny and I’m sure tired of hearing how “Hot” she is. Who honestly gives a crap!
Now, CarlE can you answer this question with some of your integrity or will you simply reply again, “She’s Hot”?

And herein lies the number 1 problem in America. Citizens are too damn lazy to take the time to actually look for credible information themselves. They simply hear crap on talk radio or MSNBC and assume that because it is coming from mainstream media it has to be accurate, or they hear their parents make a comment and assume that it is also 100% factual. I was always amazed when I taught government how many students said they hated Republicans or hated Democrats. Then I'd do an exercise where I would get the party platforms and take the names and parties out of them and have the students read them and then decide which platform best fits their personal beliefs. When it was all said and done few students chose Republican and even fewer chose the Democrats. The vast majority would choose the Libertarian (Nobody did ever choose the Green Party). Then i'd see the knuckleheads a year later and talk politics with them and it was the same crap...Republicans suck, Dems suck...they forgot the entire damn lesson.

None of this crap where the winner of Iowa and New Hampshire play a HUGE role in determining who the candidate would be. Our current political system is so flawed it's bordering on silly.
The primary system is a great way of seeing who can run a well organized campaign. I think this shows that the candidate has the ability to be President of the U. S. A. The long hours, understanding the issues that face our country, the ability to reach out to the voters. In a 1 day primary I think the advantage would go to the already known candidate, one who has the millions it takes to run a campaign already at their disposal. It also does give a candidate a chance for the American people to get to know him, his views, his character. Look at McCain for an example. If we had a 1 day primary the winner in the Republican probably would have been Rudy or Mitt. But, because of the system, McCain had a chance to get his message out. The same goes for the Democrats, who wins a 1 day primary Guess Who! Clinton. An relative unknown like Barak Obama has no chance. The system works.
What I feel does not work is that the people who vote because of a sound bite and what some internet lies are passed around. The Voters need to become educated, find out what the policies of Obama and McCain are. Make an educated decision on what you feel is good and right for this country.

"Last nights speech by Sarah Palin was watched by 37 million viewers"!
Two points;
1. There was more than one person scheduled to speak last night, and I don't remember anyone calling me to see if I was watching.
2. 37 million is pretty much "the base" of the Republican party. Furthermore, that's pretty much every one of the fat loser, drug user, Rush Limbaughs core audience!

Dems have a major headache on their hands. Are they really going to attack her on abortion after she just gave birth to a special-needs child? They will look like barbarians. They can't attak her non-experience with Barack at the top of the ticket. If they hit her too hard they look sexist. If they criticize her upbringing and small-town values, they criticize most of America (the real America, between the coasts).
The lib media hit her with both barrels and she stood tall and fired back. Looks like they need to dig deep into the dirty trick bag, because she seesm to live out what she believes.

In a 1 day primary I think the advantage would go to the already known candidate, one who has the millions it takes to run a campaign already at their disposal.
While I respect what you are saying...I do disagree. Any way you run it, they have to get out and campaign to get there message across. The difference is, if you pick up one State, the suck-ass media makes you the darling for a week or two and you gain a lot of momentum. I'd rather be bombarded with a ton of information (Not BS) real information by the candidates and then make a choice from there. Even if this was done (which it never will be) I'd still have a tough time voting for either an R or a D because they are so out of touch and controlled by the radicals on both sides. It actually makes me want to vomit. The Christian Conservatives have hijacked the R's, the Socialist have hijacked the D's...I can't stand either of them. Where are the Reagan Republicans...or the Goldwater Republicans? Where are the Truman Dems or the Kennedy Dems (Even though Kennedy was one of the worst foreign policy presidents of all time) he was still a down to earth guy that really cared about the country.
Straight Talk...Change...Whatever. This is by far the most disheartening American Presidential election since Thomas - Burr in 1800. God help us because we sure as hell are not given the choice between these two clowns to help ourselves.

BREAKING NEWS! Per MSNBC
"Last nights speech by Sarah Palin was watched by 37 million viewers"!
Two points;
1. There was more than one person scheduled to speak last night, and I don't remember anyone calling me to see if I was watching.
2. 37 million is pretty much "the base" of the Republican party. Furthermore, that's pretty much every one of the fat loser, drug user, Rush Limbaughs core audience!
So what's the BREAKING NEWS? Come on MSNBC, get on the T. Boone Pickens express! He has a plan
37 million viewers and four fewer networks than those that carried Obamas speech.
And if by 'fat loser, drug user, Rush Limbaugh' you mean someone who gets paid millions of dollars a year by our evil capitalist system instead of sitting around on his can collecting government/tax payer assistence, then yes, i agree with you. I wish we had more losers like him. The only reason you constantly whine about Rush Limbaugh is because people like you are scared to death that a conservative, or put in more specific terms; someone who doesn't use government as an agent of constituent dependence, might actually influence people.

It's a shame the high rollin faaaaaaaar right in the party can't afford cable, or ,more TV's, or whatever their problem was in finding a network to watch the convention, but it doesn't change the fact that the 37 million viewers was more than likely made up of about 36.5 million sheep that are voting for Rush's new best freind any way!
BTW! I'm not sure if you have ever heard my theory on the Big Fat Loser Drug User before or not, but here goes!
He's a carnival act. A very rich carnival act. That owes a huge debt of gratitude to the stinkin Clintons for having the millions he has, and a cult following of sheep that live their lives according to Rush! "IF", Rush decided tomorrow, that it would benefit him financially to flip and preach the same sermon to the libs in this country, he would do it in a heart beat! He's got alot of money alright, but that doesn't make him rich. Now does it?
Don't forget, he is a loser drug user, that preaches one thing, and lives another. Much like the men of the cloth that preach one way to the congregation, then cry allegator tears and say "I have sinned", "I made a mistake", blah, blah, blah, "I NEEDED MY HOUSEKEEPER TO GET ME THOSE ILLEGAL DRUGS"! Yeah, you and the rest of the sheep can idolize the "criminal carny" all you want, I'll continue to look up to the likes of Sean "Mr Clean" Hannity!!!!

You libs have alot of nerve even mentioning the word "sheep" in any context whatsoever or drug use for that matter. Your candidate admitted to snorting cocaine...haha that would explain alot actually. And, the followers of Obama must be sheep too because he hasn't said anything of substance to this day and you know it. Oh, but, he's for change...right right. I guess that is enough.
And even if Rush is a carnival act (i disagree, but entertain it for the purposes of the conversation), he is obviously a carnival act that people want to listen to. That is of course, until the left shuts him down with the Fairness Doctrine because they have nothing to combat him with (other than whining and crying). Don't be mad because noone wants to listen to liberal drabble on the radio. But keep trying that Air America thing, maybe one day it will work.

Man2Man! (I can't beilieve I just typed that name and it doesn't pertain to football.)
You said; "Dems have a major headache on their hands. Are they really going to attack her on abortion after she just gave birth to a special-needs child? They will look like barbarians".
I think you're missing the bigger picture when you use this logic. I don't think "they" are going to "attack" her on abortion, I think they'll question her decision to have an Amniocentesis(sp)!
I mean, when she was introduced, the campaign, Republican strategists, and christian conservatives were clamoring about how Sarah Palin gave birth to a "special-needs" child, "even after learning that the child was going have Down syndrome"! APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE!!!!
I think "they", meaning a whole lot of people, are going to wonder how it is that Palin can be Pro-life, anti-abortion in every case, and still make the decision too have an Amniocentesis(sp) performed during her pregancy! Especially knowing full well that it puts the child at risk. I mean, why do it if despite the results, she doesn't believe in abortion anyway. Why put the fetus unnecessarily at risk if you plan on having the baby regardless of the results? This just doesn't make any sense, and I think it calls in to question her decision making, if not her proclaimed stance on abortion. I had a freind say, "well maybe her doctor told her it would be best to do an Amniocentesis". I said well if that's true, why the heck didn't she tell the doctor NO, and what does that tell us about her if she didn't? Nobody could accept that Sarah Palin would say that she was "just taking her doctors advice", or that she "wasn't sure what it all meant"!
I can't wait to hear the explanation, and it's a shame that the defenders of this decision will cry that the "liberal media is being so unfair" asking her about it! The "liberal media" didn't parade her decision it out there when she was announced for all the world to see! The Campaign did! To add to the appeal of Sarah Palin, and "rally the base"!
The other topic I can't wait to hear her discuss is Creationism vs Evolution. She claims to believe in both, and I'm not sure how that's possible, but being the fair and balanced person I am I'll await her explanation!
Thanks for the questions Man2Man, good to see you in a political forum!

I realize there's an argument that could be made that this procedure can bring helpful information to both the mother and the doctor, but it also increases the chances of mis-carriage by 1/2-1%, and it calls for a needle to be pushed through the abdomen, and into the uterus putting the fetus at risk. I don't believe anyone can justify the risk/reward of such a procedure if they're 100% Pro-life, but as I said, I'm willing to hear Palins thoughts.

It's a common that republicans don't understand that most Democrats and people in general abhor Abortion and would never choose to have one themselves. It's not that we're all "WE WANT YOU TO HAVE AN ABORTION" it's more of our philosophy that it isn't OUR RIGHT to dictate what another person does with their body. We are very much Pro-life and also Pro-Choice.
I think it's sexist that we can't hit her as hard on topics and issues as we would a man. :-)

Why do they have a headache on their hands? What does her special-needs child have to do with abortion? Nobody is telling her that she should have had one. The issue is the choice to have one or not and obviously she chose to have her baby. That's wonderful. Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. It means exactly what it's labeled. Nobody is pro-abortion.
And I'm tired of people saying things like "they can't hit her too hard or they look sexist". BS!!. If she's going to stand in that job she damn well better be able to take it just like anybody else that's stood there before. If not, get out now.

I'm looking forward to the debates. I want to hear what their platforms are, and how they plan to address the countries problems. I doubt either candidate will be able to accomplish their plan, considering the two party politics that occupies our country.
So, this leaves us to vote for who best meets our individual ideas and principles. For me, I'm voting Pro-Life and being a Marine(1953-57),I would today, much prefer to have my choice: John S. McCain as "Commander In Chief" leading us in our ideas and principles. A true hero, who loves his country, and has served it at home and abroad. "GOD BLESS AMERICA"

A lot of people were asking tonight: what the hell was that mansion up behind John McCain tonight during the first part of the speech? As I noted below, the TV close-ups only showed McCain's head against the grass in the picture, which made it look like he was reprising his famed green screen performance. And when they panned out, it looked like McCain was showing off one of his mansions.
Well, several readers have written in to tell me that the building is actually the main building on the campus of the Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California. And sure enough, this page on the school's website makes it pretty clear that they're correct.

Here's an RNC observation: More people watched McCain's speech than Obama's. As many people watched Palin's speech as Obama's -- far more than watched Biden's.
There are a couple of points here:
- Obama obviously hasn't closed the deal. All these folks watching McCain and Palin weren't just looking for something besides reruns. Obama's whole campaign is built around him and his cult of personality. If his star fades -- if his celebrity dims (or is eclipsed) -- and he is seen as just another politician, he's in deep, deep trouble.
- When one party's VP candidate draws the same interest as the other party's presidential candidate, said presidential candidate has a problem.

As to military men and women not standing up for John Kerry and the swift boating, how do we know? It's not only the military who vote in an election. The debate on this site has been heated and many great points have been made. Ironically, the one person who (IMHO) will benefit the most is a local guy. Stark County Commissioner, Todd Bosley, owns the rights to "Bobble Head Dolls." Can you imagine the money that he is bringing in right now, especially, since a "relatively unknown" is in the possible position to be the next Vice President of the U.S.A.? He is also making money from all of the others. Wow, if he registers with the NASDAQ as a "publically traded commission/stock" we all might be well off if we invest in it
This is just something mundane that I thought about today and I wanted to add a little levity to the site.

PS: I remember a store in Massillon that sold "Bobble Heads" 45 years ago, however, he was smart enough to get the "patent."
