Kind of sad, really. It seems a little selfish of the adults especially if the kids still want to play.

That is remarkable! Can you imagine living in that little PC world?

They've been outscored 164-0...............
It was probably wise to cancel in my opinion...............
I mean judging by those scores they probably rarely crossed the 50 yd. line on offense and probably never stopped the other teams 1st string offense............

Yeah, but if the kids wanted to continue, let 'em play. Besides, doesn't this send the wrong message that if you don't win, you might as well not play?

GT87,
Did you actually read the article at the link? I don't think it had anything to do with the adults being selfish and wanting to quit because they weren't winning. The adults, at the Head coaches recommendation, decided to end the season because their players were being physically manhandled on the field and they felt that the players were very much at risk of being seriously injured.(One clue would be the 164-0 scoring difference that Clarence mentioned) They barely had the minimum number of players required to field a team also. Sounds to me like they did this purely for safety reasons.

It sounds like that to me also, fyrewood. And as competitive as I am in all aspects of life, I have to say I agree with this and feel that they made the right decision.

I agree also, the safety of the kids trumps everything.

I second this also. Safety of kids, first and foremost.

I would love to know their exact number of players. I mean, losing 30-0, 46-0, 44-0 and 44-0 really is not that bad when you take into account some of the Youngstown teams of the past such as East and some of the Cleveland and Akron city schools and the numbers that they get trounced by such as 76-6 on a regular basis. John Adams high school in Cleveland this year has 5 open dates/byes and got beat 85-12 by Cleveland East Shaw and they are playing out the year. They gave up 85 FREAKIN points to one team and they are finishing the season. Again, I would love to know their actual number of players. If they only have 12 players I can understand ending the season. If they are saying it it unsafe because they have 20-25 really bad players, I say its a bunch of crap to end the season. You took the job knowing numbers were down...Play on.

Found this clip from the Bay City Times:
Oscoda High School Coach Kyle Tobin said he could not guarantee the safety of his squad. "I have 28 years of coaching experience in high school and college, and I know the difference between a team playing bad and a team that's unsafe," he said.
Tobin told The Bay City Times that only 10 players came prepared to one recent practice, that he had barely enough players to field a team and that only two members of his squad could meet its weight-lifting standards.
