Since the Republican Party, and President Bush in particular, were to blame for the hurricane and the failing of the levies in New Orleans a couple years ago, do they also get credit for the recent hurricane that was downgraded and the re-built levies did their job? Just wondering.

Of course not. After all. it was Bush's disastrous climate policy that caused the hurricane to begin with.

what i don't get are these people who are upset with the fact that they evacuated and the storm ended up not doing as much damage as was feared (thankfully, the levees held)...they are whining about being in the shelters...some are saying that next time they won't leave...how dumb are these people???

it is by the grace of God that the storm was less than predicted (Thank you, God!!!)

iit is by the Grace of God that there were very few deaths or injuries..."t is because there was no one there: that as homeland security chief, chertoff, said..."you didn't see the dramatic rescues, there was no need"...

things worked...the people got out of harm's way...and the police and others didn't have to go rescue idiots who had gotten their butts in trouble because of their own stupidity...

one would think after having gone through Katrina...one would do as many did...get out of Dodge...every time...

personally, with the uncertainty of the storms Hanna, Ike and Josephine, I wouldn't be in a hurry to get anywhere near the coast...they probably are just going to get back, and all heck will break loose again...and then, if people don't leave and many deaths happen...they will, once again, blame the government (city, state or fed) for their stupidity...

if that isn't the definition of stupid, I don't know what is...

I never could understand why some of these people who live on the coast stay home during Hurricanes. The storm is going to damage whatever it's going to damage if they are at home or not. So get the heck out! I guess they're afraid of looters. But all that can be replaced. Your life can't.

What got me was some of the news media guys down there reporting-- namely Geraldo.

He was standing there with some whirligig that measured wind speed. He would stand there and say -- “it’s 55, now it’s 63, now it’s 54, now it’s 70, now it’s 65….”. Then he said, “Wait…there’s something blowing down the street!”. He went to go get it. He held up a pair of green beads and said, “Some green beads blowing down the street!”.

Then, the best on was when he saw someone in the water (who had a life jacket on) and was yelling that “SOMEONE IS STRANDED OUT THERE! HELP! GET HIM A LIFELINE!” Here is was an Army Corps of Engineers guy out there securing something and he HAD a lifeline on him. Geraldo was still trying to make something of it when they pulled him back in saying something like…”they’re pulling him in…he’s going under the water….he’s back up…he’s under…he’s up….(well, you get the drift).

I know that this was a very serious situation…but, I found Geraldo very amusing in the “midst of the storm”.

Your Geraldo interpretation was funny, TigerLily! I didn't see it but it sounds like typical Geraldo reporting:laughing:

I hollered at the whole family to come out and take a look at this Einstein. Running up to a levee telling his camera man to get closer. Then pulling him up with his arm when he wouldn't come closer.

No of course not. This hurricane wasn't near as bad as Katrina nor the same scale nor did it hit the city like katrina did. IF (big IF) it was katrina the 2nd, the city would have been underwater yet again. That's why they did an evacuation. Luckily they did it early this time and also luckily it turns out it wasn't needed. Thankfully they evacuated anyway

But why take my word for it

Gustav/katrina interactive map (http://www.usatoday.com/weather/hurricane/gustavmap.htm)

Some basic stats (http://www.abc26.com/pages/landing_news/?Katrina-vs-Gustav-At-A-Glance=1&blockID=46361&feedID=1154)

Also there was alot of blamed place during Katrina and not all of it was on the shoulders of republicans. HOWEVER, a republican (Bush) did occupy the highest office in our country and appointed the joker who ran FEMA and since FEMA was the main avenue of national response that was completely blundered. Yes Yes Yes Bush ultimately bares the responsibility and the guilt here

I'm pretty sure that nobody blamed Bush for the hurricane.
