DWI, DUI, OVI...why all the changes? Just wondering.

That is a shame.
As soon as I read the headline, I KNEW that he got picked up by an OHP. There is no "get out of jail free card" with them regarding other cops.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to know you're looking out for all of us down here at the PD.

It changed to OVI about a year or so ago, no more DWI or DUI, just OVI, Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated. I know, kind of stupid, same thing though, just different terminology.

No one is 'mistake free' . However, some are held to higher standards by public perception. I'm glad no one scrutinizes my personal life !!:eek2:

The Police should be held to a higher standard. They are the ones enforcing the laws of the city. Our public safety relies on the honesty and integrity of our great officers. I'm not saying that everyone is perfect nor should they be, but this officer must be held accountable for his actions.
I'm an accountant. If I steal money from my company, I should be held at a higher standard because of the ethic/morals I've been sworn to. I'm not some Joe salesman; I've been entrusted with confidental financial information.

Yeah, I just think it's strange since DUI, Driving Under the Influence, covered everything...alcohol, drugs, etc., correct? Now we're back to using the term "intoxicated" which implies only alcohol, correct? Is there another term for driving on drugs?
Just curious.

Sorry, but I don't see how the two compare. One is a criminal offense (theft) and the other is a traffic offense. I do agree with you on the other half of your statement though, if he is ultimately convicted of what he's been charged with. Officer Williams is a stand up guy. I trained him when he first started here. He's going to be an exceptional officer and I still believe in him. He made a mistake and I know he will accept responsibility for his actions. I know he was raised well and has two loving parents and alot of others pulling for him to get through this. I know this will only make him stronger.

Marquis is a great kid, I can vouch for that! Well, he's not exactly a kid anymore, but you know what I mean. I hope this works out well for him and I hope Rob's integrity is not questioned, cause it shouldn't be. He's the type of chief Massillon has needed for a long time! I wish the Williams family well.

I am also an accountant and I don't remember ever being sworn into my job with the company. Unless you are a CPA, and even them are never sworn in, there is nothing I have signed or ever had to take a oath to uphold anything.Being sworn into a public office and getting a job with a public company are two totally different things.

I'm assuming you've heard of Sarbanes/Oxley? You may not have signed anything but you DO uphold the financial integrity of the company that your CEO and CFO DOES sign off on.

Oh I know SOX all to well and know that I have the responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements. I was just trying to state that I think being sworn into a public office is far different then getting hired by a public company.

it may not start out as a criminal offense, but if one was to get into an accident that would hurt or kill someone, it would quickly get there...
