Screwed at Canton imagine that . How did the officials decide to add 5 seconds on the clock at the massillon vs Jordan (Utah) game Even with one second left there is no way that gives Jordan enough time to set up for a field goal with no time outs left .

We didn't get screwed, they didn't stop the clock after the first down. This isn't the pros, the clock stops for first downs. The clock manager didn't do his job.

Don't call back Kirk.
Clock should have stopped at 5 seconds when Utah got the first down. After the chains were moved clock should have started. However, as everyone saw (who was at the game); that's not what happened.

The ref's did their job, they had to figure out how much time should be on the clock since the clock manager didn't stop the clock. It's not the refs fault.

And let's not act like "we got screwed" when we gave up over 400 yards of offense.

Yes the clock does stop after first downs in highschool but after the chains are moved THE CLOCK SHOULD SHOULD START BACK UP which it did not and gave Jordan an extra minute to get everyone they wanted on the field to kick the fieldgoal. Yes we gave up alot of yards and maybee did not deserve to win the game but they did not deserve to lose how they did.

Seems like a poor job by the officials to me.Jordan had too much time after the chains were set up to start that play.I think the officials blew the last fumble call they made on us after a pass reception also. That should have been an incomplete pass.Things like this happen in sports sometimes. The officials are only human, they make mistakes.I don`t always aggree with them.
This is a going to be a good test to see how our team handles adversity.Breaks are not always going to go our way.All we can do is move on and forget this game.Get ready for next week.We owe Normandy big time for last years game. Its time for payback!
I must say it was very poor sportsmanship for some of our fans to boo the Beetdiggers as they left the field. Those kids did nothing to deserve that! They played a hard game just like our kids did.

Booing them was pretty bush league. The refs are the ones who needed booed. Jordan played with what they were given, same as we would've. It can be said though, that if we would've finished the job, what the refs did would've never mattered. If we continue to move the ball and score a TD on that last drive or not give up 30 yards in one play on theirs, we win or are at least playing OT. The refs did not hep us out, but they also surely did not lose the game for us. Now, we either learn from this and build on it or dwell on it and let it ruin the rest of the season.

The announcers on WHBC said the fumble call on the pass toward the end of the game was a terrible call. They are also noted it was made by an official who was making the call out of his area of resposibility. The ref who had the responsibility made no call.
In several situations they also reported we had only 10 players on the field.
On the FG they reported Jordan had their FG team ready to go in but the clock which had been improperly run to 1 second was reset to 5 but was not restarted when the chains were set. They also advised they felt the only way for Jordan to get a play in before the clock ran out was to get their team on the field and spike the ball and that would be problematic at best.
Also it is the responsibility of an official on the field to keep time to ensure the clock is correct.
I am also grateful for an outstanding sports broadcasting team on WHBC which since Sam Bourquin took over was objective and supportive of Massillon during the broadcast.

From what I observed Jordans players began taunting our student section as they headed back to their locker room, which is why they got booed.

I agree, this is not the pros, nor are the refs or the time keepers. Mistakes happen and I think they made them right. It is unfortunate for the Tigers that Jordan was able to take advantage of the situation and win the game. The Tigers had their share of mistakes during the game as well that lead to this heartbreaking loss.
Congrats to Jordan for the win, and to the Tigers for another great game. And, thanks to MassillonProud for broadcasting the games to us Tiger fans out of state!

This may not be the Pros. But, this was not an ordinary high school game, this game classic deserves and should demand that only the best run the board and the refs be the tops in their field. Maybe we should only play in this Classic if we are guaranteed to play at our HOME>

OK..OK..Massillon gave up 400 yards to a very 'air talented' Jordan attack, HOWEVER..THEY gave up close to 400 yards against us. I was calling the game next to Sammy in the press box as well..This was a GREAT game between two great teams and the outcome was determined by a referee..In my thirty (+) years of broadcasting games; I have never seen that..Its was truly sad and pathetic for BOTH teams.

I agree. This game matched two pretty even teams. Both were good teams. Even though, I think we got some bad calls, we should have made some plays that would have won the game for us.

If you've never seen this before, you apparently were not at the Marion Harding playoff game in 2000. That was not a mistake. It was much a blatant screw job.

I agree. That was a conspricacy. And there have been many other games as well in which we got the short end of the stick on purpose.
Last night was just plain incompentency in the heat of the moment.

It all started early in the first quarter, There was a dead ball foul that should have gave Jordan a 1st and 25 instead they gave them 1st and 10.

okay i am not here to say that it is COMPELTELY the refs fault that we lost that game..we should have never been in that situation.. we had a lot of missed opportunities on our last drive before our field goal attempt that came up short...
...but i am AMAZED at the amount of disrespect that was shown by the Utah team after the game.. and not just by the players.. but by the coaches... there was a caoch jumping up and down taunting and pointing in the Massillon player's faces.. ABSOLUTELY uncalled for..it's one thing for teenage boys to act like that... but a coach?.. WOW
..i understand that this was a big win for them.. they had every right to be excited... but that was NOT the way to handle it...they were VERYYYYYY unclassy...
..and i give MAJOR kudos to the Massillon team for the way they handled it after the game..because I know I wouldn't have been able to stand there as a grown man was taunting and pointing in my face..
..also.. IMO i didn't feel like it was right for the Utah team to come back on the field.. they already went to the locker room.. celebrate and sing your little song there.. very unclassy..
again... all of this is just my opinion..i left the drip last night VERY uneasy..but it's a new week now i guess.. and it's time to look to he next opponent..

My guess is Coach Hall will be more focused on giving up 420+ total yards and 27 points and giving up the lead several times.

It doesnt matter if we shouldve been in that situation or not. We were. You cant say we shouldnt of lost that way but we had some mistakes so we still should have lost. The Jordan WR was tackled with 5 seconds left. The time stops. The time should remain stopped until the chains are set. Once their set the clock continues. They couldve have 10 seconds once those chains were set and they still wouldnt have been able to get that snap off. They didnt run their FG team on until the chains were set. Its impossible to get your whole offense and FG team switched, lined up, and the kicker set and snap in the time there. It shouldve been OT and EVERYONE who seen the game including the referees know it. Even once the clock was set they didnt run the time until it was almost snapped. And to the Jordan team after. They ran in front of our student section yelling, pointing, and throwing there helmets up staring at the Massillon students. Very, very unclassy. But its all over now nothing anyone can do. All you can do is get back to practice and prepare for next week. Lets take it 1 game at a time. BEAT NORMANDY! GO TIGERS!
