WHO IS “MASSILLON PROUD”?
MASSILLON PROUD is a community of Massillonian’s committed to the betterment of our community, our schools, our programs and our traditions. While the website massillonproud.com may be ran by one guy, it is truly OUR site. I value your input and comments and will strive to bring you information you desire to know.
Massillon Proud was founded in the early 1990’s by Rick Platt who had a goal of using the new techonology of the internet and online bulletin boards to unite and inform a community. Massillon Proud began as RickOhio.com and eventually changed to the present name. I can not take credit for the Massillon Proud name, but I will proudly carry it on into the future.
For 10+ years Massillon Proud evolved at the hands of Jim Isom into an online community forum where most Massillonians who had internet access received their “real time” Massillon information. Jim is a very technologically savvy individual who built a forum structure which united people both here and afar. Providing sideline video and photography, game recaps and historical analysis of all things Massillon. Most importantly Massillon Proud united people. You didn’t have to be from Massillon to be part of Massillon Proud. Communities joined Massillon Proud to discuss sports and city activities; both good and bad. While Jim got a lot of credit for what he did to evolve Massillon Proud he would tell you first hand that it was the PEOPLE who made Massillon Proud the community it is.
In 2010 I was given the opportunity to take over Massillon Proud. It was an easy decision for me because I am Massillon Proud. I was born here, I went to school here and I came back here to raise my family. Massillon is a special place because of our traditions, but our traditions make us a REAL community.
I won’t bore you with all of the details of how the Massillon Proud forums came to pass, but in early 2015 the forums of Massillon Proud were closed for good. For me this was a good thing because it gave me an opportunity to reflect and reform a new Massillon Proud.
Gone are the forums. The “new” Massillon Proud will exclusively be in blog format and comments per article.
