What did we learn if anything?
A recently released photo from Coach Moore at the Nike High School Coaches Summit showed some tweaks to the alternate Charcoal (almost Black) uniforms. From what we can tell from the photo the following changes appear.
1. The charcoal color itself looks a little deeper towards black. You can tell it isn’t black because of the black outline on the numbers, the black helmet, etc.
2. The neckline used to have a “v type” pattern. now it appears there is no pattern. The font for “MASSILLON” has changed to a more Massillon font. Block letters. The number font appears to have stayed the same. It is hard to tell if the orange is deeper, but my guess is that it probably is. The orange and the gray for that matter are most likely faded from years of use.
3. I immediately noticed the shoulder stripes were replaced by TV numbers. This is a huge upgrade especially for those who have complained over the years of not being able to see numbers from the stands. Numbers on the shoulders may aid in identifying players.
4. What may be the most significant detail is almost unrecognizable to the eye in the photo, but if you zoom in on the stripe detail of the pants it is clearly patterned in Tiger stripes similar to the Bengals. Which may or may not answer the question of was the Bengals helmet shown off a few weeks ago at WHS a real possibility?
So now the question has to be asked “Does the entire uniform package change?”. My guess is yes, it is probably a complete overhaul. Last year in the preseason the Chrome helmets were shown off for the Whitfield camp, but the varsity never wore the Chrome lids. The freshman team wore the chrome helmets the entire season. The flat black helmets were refinished to the satin orange color which ultimately ended up being one of the most popular helmets of the season.
Will we see Bengals helmets this year for the Tigers? Will any of these helmets shown below be what the Tigers take the field in 2016? Time will tell, maybe we are just being teased 6 months in advance of the season.
